Windows 11 Insider build 25921 for the Canary Channel released with “new” features

Microsoft released another new Windows 11 Insider build for the Canary Channel on this Friday with build 25921, but although there are two items in “What’s New,” both of them have already made appearences in previous Dev and Beta Channel releases.

First up is HDR background support, and you can set JXR files as your desktop background with full HDR support if your monitor supports it. According to the blog post some laptops even with everything enabled correctly may not properly display HDR.

Next is rich thumbnail previews (tooltips) for cloud files on Start. This feature was present in both 23511 for the Dev Channel and 22621/22631.2129 for the Beta Channel, released earlier this week, although the feature did not make the blog posts. These rich tooltips are not available for all file types as of yet (and the feature itself is rolling out):

(W)e are providing a richer thumbnail preview (tooltips) when hovering over cloud files such as Word documents under Recommended on the Start menu. For this initial release, richer thumbnail previews will not be available for all files and a later update will enable the experience for more files and for MSA users. Additionally, when right-clicking on cloud file recommendations, there is now an option to quickly share these files.

As announced also earlier this week, Cortana can be disabled in this build, Chat is becoming “Microsoft Teams – Free,” desktops in Task View will get a systray label, and a new error handling improvement for ipconfig /renew could cut reload times from ~4.1 seconds to ~0.1 seconds.

Be sure to check out the blog post for all the details. Are you a Windows 11 Canary Channel Insider? Are you still excited about the program? Let us know in the comments below.
