The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike may soon apply to actors, mo-cap performers and voice actors working in the video games industry. The union is now calling on members to vote to authorize a strike ahead of negotiations with ten major companies involved in video game production.
Rather than initiating a strike, this authorization is intended to be used as a bargaining chip. The ten companies in question are:
- Activision Productions
- Blindlight
- Disney Character Voices
- Electronic Arts Productions
- Epic Games
- Formosa Interactive
- Insomniac Games
- Take 2 Productions
- VoiceWorks Productions
- WB Games
Among the union’s demands are wage increases for members working in game production, as with their movie and TV performer counterparts, as well as other benefits.
If negations turn sour and the strike extends to video game performers, it could mean a delay for games on the horizon like Grand Theft Auto VI.
A similar situation is already happening in the world of TV and film due to strikes on the part of SAG-AFTRA and its sister union the WGA, which began in May. If a resolution is not quickly reached between they and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, shows like Halo, The Witcher and The Last of Us will be impacted by delays in forthcoming seasons.
