Hello! I hope you’re doing well. It’s been a bit of a hectic week here at iMore, as the team gets ready for Black Friday, but that doesn’t mean that we weren’t on the lookout for all the Apple-related news we could find, and boy, was it a week for news.
After covering Apple for the past six years, I have to say; I’m not usually shocked by too much in the tech world. This week, however, I was in for a bit of a surprise. Some of the news coming out this week was truly worthy of a breathy and muttered “unbelievable” as the iMore team covered some weird stories. The good news is there’s plenty of more normal happening’s here at iMore that it was easy to keep my head in the game.

Likely the most anyone has talked about Apple’s pinch-to-zoom feature since the original launch of the feature on the first iPhone happened in a very high-profile court case this week. When evidence was to be provided to the court on an iPad, there was a debate about if zooming in on the footage on the iPad would somehow alter the video using AI.
Leaving the politics of the Rittenhouse case aside, it was truly bizarre seeing and hearing a judge and a defense lawyer argue about something that clearly was not an issue. It’s just a stark reminder that tech is in our everyday lives, and people in important positions still don’t always understand how it works. It’s a little scary, to be frank.
In less intense news, someone sold an iPhone X on eBay for $86,001, which is shocking in its own right; however, it had been modified to have a USB-C port instead of Apple’s Lightning port. Proof that the appetite for a USB-C iPhone is still alive and well, and perhaps too ravenous. Of course, since it is one of a kind, I suppose it is a collector’s item of sorts, but how many more stories like these do we need before Apple gives the people the USB-C iPhone they so clearly want?

While the news kept all of us scratching our heads this week, some of my colleagues have put up some truly awesome pieces of writing this week.
Starting with Bryan’s review of the MacBook Pro (2021), which was such a great read that it had me contemplating if I needed a MacBook Pro. I don’t. I’m not a “pro” user by any means, and the M1 iMac I currently work on is more than enough power for me. I can’t imagine what I would even do with the power of an M1 Pro or M1 Max at my fingertips.

Another great read this week is my colleague Adam’s look into the legacy Ted Lasso has created for Apple TV+ and ponders the question, can Apple TV+ be a success without Ted Lasso? It’s a good question, all TV shows must come to an end, lest they become boring, unfunny, or too predictable. There’s no doubt that Ted Lasso has given Apple TV+ tons of good press and likely even brought some subscribers to the platform, so can it survive without it?

I know, I know, we’ve been talking about Black Friday a lot, but as the holidays approach, so do the deals on Apple tech! We’ve been working hard to find the best stuff as it comes up, and even though it’s two weeks away yet, some deals are already here.
