Streaming service Apple TV+ has reportedly ordered its first Russian-language original series, with Container set to star The Bourne Supremacy’s Oksana Akinshina.
According to a Variety report, the show already aired in its native Russia this past September, but it will be available to stream on Apple TV+ in spring 2022. Russian screen stars Filipp Yankovskiy (The Three Musketeers), Marusya Fomina (Gold Diggers) and Artem Bystrov (Earthquake) are also involved.
The report says that the show will be an “unflinching” thriller.
Described as “bold” and “unflinching,” the series sees Akinshina play Sasha, a surrogate mother hiding a dangerous secret who reluctantly finds herself ensconced in the luxurious home of the rich family whose baby she is gestating. As Sasha navigates the privilege and politics of the super-rich, both her secrets and theirs threaten to collide.
More Russian-language content is on the way, of course. Apple TV+ has already signed a deal with Alexander Rodnyansky’s production company AR Content that will see the outfit “deliver a slate of Russian-language and multi-language shows to Apple.”
