Action Center is the central hub of notifications in your Windows computer. It’s a place where you can get constant reminders of all the stuff that’s important for the daily upkeep of your Windows. Think things like emails, notifications from Twitter, Facebook, and other social media, or even other significant notifications pertaining to proper functioning of your Windows.
Despite its simple and almost daily use for Windows users, most people aren’t aware about the Windows Action Center. In this article, we’ve attempted to bridge that gap. So let’s dive right in.
How to open the Windows Action Center
Before getting into the nitty-gritty of Windows Action Center, let’s first look at how you can launch the Action Center in the first place. Don’t worry, there aren’t any complicated steps. In fact, the Microsoft has placed the Windows Action Center right on your desktop; you can access it right from the bottom-right corner of your taskbar. Simply click on the message icon, and you’ll see the notifications.
What’s it about
Apart from the bringing you different notifications, the Windows Action Center also gives you quick access to different Windows settings. There are a lot of other things that you get access to, such as :
- Settings
- Notes
- Wi-Fi settings
- Tablet and Airplane mode configuration
- Battery settings
- Location
- Brightness
- VPN settings
How to manage Windows Action Center
When you power your PC for the time, countless settings will come preset by default. Windows Action Center, naturally, is no different. However, while many of the settings come pre-configured, you don’t have to settle with these preset, default settings. In fact, you can change them right from your Windows Settings. Here’s how:
Go to the Start menu search bar, type in ‘settings,’ and selected the Best match to launch the Settings menu. Alternatively, press the Windows Key + I.
The Settings menu will be launched. From there, select System > Notifications. Once you’re here, you can now begin to manipulate the notifications for Windows Action Center.
You can toggle on or off the Notification option and tweak the Notifications settings all together. If you click on the down icon in front of the Notification menu, you’ll see a host of other options as well.
You’ll see things like:
- Notifications on the lock screen
- Reminder and incoming VIOP calls
- Notification sounds
You can turn on or turn off all of these settings for your PC right from the Action Center. We’ve already covered how you can customize Quick Actions in the Action Center in one of our previous posts. Now let’s look at how you can disable it.
Disabling the Windows Action Center
The Windows Action Center is a useful utility. But we understand it might not be everybody’s cup of tea; a constant barrage of notifications, especially while you are working, can be very distracting. Fortunately, you can easily switch it off without any difficulties.
Here’s how you can turn off the Windows Action Center:
On the Windows Action Center, click on ‘Manage notifications’ written in the top-right corner of your screen. You’ll get taken to the Notifications & actions page in your Settings menu. From here, simply toggle off the Get notifications from apps and other senders option, and all your notifications will be turned off.
Moreover, if you scroll down a little, you’ll also see and pick individual ‘senders’ that you want (or don’t) to receive notifications from. The individual senders have their detailed notification settings, which you can see by clicking on the individual notification.
For instance, here I’ll go into Slack.
As you can see, apart from controlling the Notification settings, I can also decide if I want to see the notifications in the banner or in the action center. There’s also a feature to hide notification content, keep the notification sounds, and the ability to limit the number of notifications from Slack.
Then there’s a feature called Priority, which lets you choose from Top, High, or Normal. This decides where the notifications will become visible in your Action Center.
