Since the release of Windows 11, the Microsoft Store has been receiving updates with big apps making their way to the store.
It now seems that more good news is in the corner as more Android apps are rumored to be coming soon to the popular store.
In a new blog post, Microsoft’s Panos Panay discussed Windows 11, the company’s operating system, and one of the primary enhancements he mentioned was that Windows 11 is driving three times more traffic to the Microsoft Store which is newly redesigned.
Nothing has really changed even after a redesign
Today, the Windows Store is part of the Microsoft Store and offers apps and hardware for customers to shop from.
As Microsoft’s Panay previously mentioned, the Windows Store has undergone a makeover for Windows 11, but a new Reddit thread shows how little else has really changed when it comes to the app side of the Store.
A Reddit user shared an image of the OpenOffice software and asked, “Why does Microsoft allow this to be sold on the Windows Store?”
The responses came quickly, and they were either funny or upsetting. However, it’s still sketchy and Microsoft enables this behavior in its quest to get big-name apps on the store, a battle it’s been fighting and losing since day one.
Not so good reviews
A Reddit thread revealed that the Microsoft Store is a poor source of free software. It offers 13 different paid versions of free software as well as 30 other paid books on how to use free software.
One user adds:
When I went to the Microsoft Store, I expected to be able to install Teams from it. I was surprised to find that Teams wasn’t on there! It took me a few minutes to realize I had to head to the Teams website to download and install the app.
According to Panay,
One of the incredible benefits of the Windows platform is that it provides a broad and open ecosystem that offers people choice. Today, the ecosystem is stronger than it’s ever been across hardware, software, apps, peripherals and more.
The Microsoft Store is a helpful place to go if you’re looking to buy something physical from the company, but its app offerings are the definition of a dumpster fire. As such, most people never download anything from the store because it’s easier to find what they want elsewhere.
