October brought some nice changes to Microsoft Remote Desktop on iOS and Mac

The Microsoft Remote Desktop app updated with several new features and fixes this month for both the app for Mac computers and the app for iPhones and iPads.

The update for Macs brought the Microsoft Remote Desktop app up to Version 10.7.0 and added a variety of improvements for Connection Center (PCs and Workspaces) and Azure Virtual Desktop while also adding support for RemoteApp local window moving.

Here’s the full release notes with all of the details:

It’s time for another update. Thanks to everyone who reported bugs and worked with us to diagnose and fix issues. In this version we made the following changes:

  • Invertible cursors (like the I-Beam) are now outlined to make them visible on dark backgrounds.
  • The underlying code backing the Connection Center (PCs and Workspaces) has been significantly improved.
  • Added support for local window move in RemoteApp scenarios.
  • Updated the Connection Information dialog (Connections > Show Connection Information).
  • Added screen capture protection for Azure Virtual Desktop scenarios (https://aka.ms/avdscp).
  • Addressed a design defect that was allowing folders to be redirected multiple times.
  • Addressed reliability issues identified through crash reporting and feedback.
  • Updated Help > Submit Feedback to navigate to a new support forum.
  • In addition, we have continued to make updates to improve security, connectivity and performance metrics when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop.

Note that by default local window move in RemoteApp scenarios is disabled. To enable local window move, set the EnableRemoteAppLocalMove user default to true.

The iOS app update for iPads and iPhones brings the app up to Version 10.3.4. This update also included some Azure Virtual Desktop improvements and also added a Home Indicator change and support for keyboard navigation during the PC/remote app in-session switcher.

Here’s the release notes:

In this release we’ve worked through some bugs that were hanging around in our backlog. Some items we addressed include:

  • The Home Indicator now auto-hides when using a trackpad or mouse.
  • Added keyboard navigation support to the PC and remote app in-session switcher.
  • Aligned horizontal mouse scrolling behavior with the current vertical scrolling behavior.
  • Removed an unwanted sliding animation that would sometimes appear when starting or returning to a session.
  • Fixed a bug where the connection bar orientation would not be correctly aligned with the device.
  • Updated Help > Submit Feedback to navigate to a new support forum.
  • In addition, we have continued to make updates to improve connectivity and performance metrics when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop.
