Microsoft’s Minecraft Nintendo version tops UK game charts

The Nintendo Switch edition of Minecraft has once again shown its staying power and has garnered the top spot in U.K physical release sales charts for the first time in months, dethroning Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe edition, while EA’s FIFA 2022 holds steady at number two.

Minecraft jumped from number 4 last week and number 7 the week prior to reclaim best-seller status. The Switch edition of the best selling game of all time has been the most successful of its many releases. It is interesting to note that the title, developed by Microsoft-owned Mojang Studios, shares the top five with three Nintendo published games: Super Mario Party, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Minecraft Dungeons closed the week at number 7.

While there haven’t been any blockbuster titles released for the platform as yet in 2022 (though the hotly anticipated Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set for a late January release), Switch games continue to show impressive retail numbers.
