Microsoft’s first Surface Duo should receive Android 11 by the end of the year

Microsoft is finally getting ready to release the Android 11 update for its first-generation Surface Duo device. According to a report from The Verge, the company has confirmed that the original Surface Duo is set to receive its long-awaited Android 11 update by the end of this year.

The Redmond giant announced the Surface Duo 2 at its annual hardware event earlier this week. While it comes with various under the hood improvements, such as better cameras and 5G support, one of the biggest highlights of this release is that the Surface Duo 2 will be shipping with Android 11 out-of-the-box. However, some people might be concerned that the first generation Surface Duo that launched last year is still running Android 10. The update to Android 11 was reportedly planned for this Summer, but it’s still nowhere to be seen.

That is about to change soon, as Microsoft told The Verge that the much anticipated Android 11 update for the original Surface Duo is planned for this year. “We remain committed to providing updates to Surface Duo, and we’re working to bring Android 11 to existing customers before the end of this year,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge.

Meanwhile, Microsoft hasn’t provided a specific time frame for this release, but it’s good to see that Android 11 is still coming to the original Surface Duo. It also remains to be seen what features the Android 11 update would bring to the dual-screen device, but it’s expected to be the same version of Android 11 that will be running on the Surface Duo 2.

Do you think that the first-generation Surface Duo is a bit late to receive the Android 11 update? Let us know in the comments below.
