MCC to get “smaller” updates following Halo Infinite’s release

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is set to receive its next free update later this fall, with the upcoming eighth season bringing new mythic armors and skins to unlock, Custom Game Browser improvements, and more. The game’s season 8 will be the last big update of the year for Halo: MCC, but the upcoming release of Halo Infinite on December 8 will have some impact on future Halo: MCC updates.

In the latest MCC development update published yesterday, 343 Industries explained that Halo: MCC will continue to be supported in the future, though the developer will need to scale down future updates while the focus starts shifting to Halo Infinite. If big seasonal updates for Halo: MCC are no longer planned, the studio will continue to release free updates to improve the experience for Halo players.

“Starting next year, we’re targeting pivoting away from our current seasonal model and cadence to instead focus on smaller MCC updates that can land when they’re ready based on development status and studio roadmap alignment. These updates will continue to be free and will include the unreleased features and content from this year – as well as a continued effort to improve stability and tackle legacy fixes where possible. We still have a lot of goodness to deliver in 2022”, 343 Industries explained.

Several features are currently in development for Halo: MCC including mod support for Halo 2, 3, 4, and Halo Reach, as well as Steam Workshop support. “We’re still very early in the MCC modding days and eager to continue evolving capabilities while seeing all the unique experiences the community brings to life,” the team said.

If Halo: MCC continues to enjoy a healthy player base across Xbox and PC, Halo Infinite’s upcoming free-to-play multiplayer mode is expected to drag players away from the classic Halo games. Halo Infinite’s next multiplayer preview will kick off on September 24, and the first invites should start hitting the inboxes of Halo Insiders soon.
