Many OnePlus fans dislike ‘stable’ Oxygen OS 12

TL;DR

  • The Oxygen OS 12 build that rolled out to OnePlus 9 phones this week is not getting a warm reception.
  • Bugs, missing features, and other problems are the main sources of contention.
  • This early backlash for “stable” launches is becoming the norm for OnePlus.

Remember when OnePlus rolled out the Oxygen OS 11 update to the OnePlus 8 series? That didn’t go so well. Or how about the same software for the OnePlus 7 series? That came incredibly late and also didn’t go so well. Hopefully, things would be better this time around, right?

Most egregiously, a lot of staples of Oxygen OS aren’t present on the Android 12 version. This includes many customization options, such as the ability to change individual icons, customize the status bar, change the battery icon, and more. There is also no way to turn the Google Feed off (the page that appears when you swipe left on the home screen). It looks like the hybridization of Oxygen OS and Oppo’s Color OS doesn’t come without sacrifices.

There are also numerous complaints that not much has changed with the system since the previous beta. The official changelog is also getting criticized due to it lacking a lot of changes users can see when using Oxygen OS 12.

If you have a OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro, you might want to pass on the update for now.
