At some point, we’ve all been there. You want to connect a new device to your Wi-Fi, but you simply can’t remember the password.
Thankfully, if you’re a Windows user all is not lost. You can recover your Wi-Fi password relatively easily with the help of straightforward methods that we’ve laid down below.
Let’s jump right in.
View Wi-Fi password from Network Settings
First, you’ve to launch the Windows Settings. Go to the Start menu search bar, type in ‘settings,’ and select the Best match. Alternatively, use the Windows Key + I shortcut.
Now head to the Network & internet section from the left-hand bar and click on Advanced network settings.
From here, click on Related Settings and select More network adapter options. A window of Network Connections will be launched. Now right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and click on Status.
In the dialog box, select Wireless Properties. Then click on the Security tab. Under the Network security key option, check the show characters radio box and your Wi-Fi password will be revealed.
You’re free to connect the device to this Wi-Fi network from here on.
From Command prompt
While the above method works fine if you’ve already connected your system with the Wi-Fi, what will you do when you’re not connected to it at the present? If you’ve connected your device even once, though, there’s hope.
With the help Command prompt, you can easily find out the password of a previously saved Wi-Fi password. We’ve already covered the basics of Command prompt before, so if you’re unsure about it, don’t hesitate to check out our short guide.
To get started, go to Start menu search bar, type in ‘cmd,’ and select the Best match.
In the Command prompt, type the following command and hit Enter:
netsh wlan show profiles
As soon as you execute this command, all your saved Wi-Fi networks will be shown.
Now pick a specific Wi-Fi network, enter the following command and hit Enter:
netsh wlan show profile name=“Wi-Fi NAME” key=clear
Here, replace the “Wi-Fi Name” with the name of the Wi-Fi network whose Wi-Fi you’d like to pick up. You’ll get all the information of the Wi-Fi network as soon as you execute this command.
You’ll find your password in the Security settings section of the Command prompt. It will be laid out in front of Key Content.
