Windows 11 helps you fit your windows into pre-cut layouts called Snap. First introduced with Windows 7, the Snap has come a long way since then, with its nifty features now transferred on to Windows 11.
Put briefly, the Snap feature lets you view two windows side by side, without the need to resize the Windows. Here’s how you can set it up and use it on Windows.
Setting up snap in Windows 11
You can easily set up Snap in Windows through the help of a mouse, keyboard, or the Snap Assist feature. Before, we had covered how you can easily turn off snap assist on Windows 10. In what follows, we’ll go through all of these methods one by one. Let’s get started.
1. Snap with a mouse
Before you rush on to use the Snap assist, first you have to make sure that snap feature is actually enabled. Here’s how:
- Open the Windows Settings (Windows key + I).
- Click on System > Multitasking.
- Toggle on the Snap Windows to enable this feature.
Once you do this, you’ll be able to use the Snap assist feature.
Now, to snap your Windows with the mouse, navigate to the title bar of a window, drag it towards an edge and drop it where you’d like the Snap to be.
As soon as you do that, a Snap will be created.
2. Use Snap Assist
A new feature in Windows 11, Snap assist also helps you organize the space on your screen—after you’ve already snapped the Windows. When you snap a window—as we’ve done above—you’ll see the remaining thumbnails on the empty side of your Windows.
Click on the thumbnail of the window that you’d want to open in space on your screen. Drag to the side of the windows you want it to be, and then release the mouse button. The window will fit itself in the space, alongside the other snap.

3. Using Snap with keyboards
Pick and click on the Window you’d like to snap, and then click on the Windows Logo Key + Left Arrow or Windows key + Right Arrow to snap the window to the side of the screen where you want it to be.
You can also press the Windows Key + Up Arrow or the Windows Key + Down Arrow to move it into the desired corner.
You can also move it to the corner after you’re done.
4. Snap Layouts
Snap layouts also lets you organize your windows screens neatly into your Windows computer. They are easily accessible by dragging and hovering your mouse over a Window’s maximize button. Alternatively, press the Windows key + Z.
Choose a snap layout you’d like to arrange the Windows as, and click on it.
