Dropbox adds features to make it easier to organize and find your files

Dropbox has announced new features that are designed to make it easier for people to organize and then find their digital files. A number of new features announced via blog post, show just how far Dropbox has come from being a folder on your Mac that syncs files to the cloud.

All of the new features are available to Dropbox Teams today with individual and family plans getting them “soon.” Those features look pretty great as well, especially if you’re someone who wants to be able to dump files into Dropbox and then have it carry out actions on them.

The new features include:

  • Automated folders. Create folders that automatically perform specific tasks—such as naming, sorting, tagging, and converting—anytime a file is added to the folder.
  • Automated dashboard. Control and manage automated folders and their settings from a central dashboard.
  • Naming conventions. Create file naming standards based on categories that can be applied to individual folders. You can rename files or photos by the date they were taken and include a parent folder name.
  • Multi-file organize. Categorize and sort a folder’s files into subfolders based on dates, keywords or level of activity. Preview and verify changes before files are moved.

New support for search using tags has also been added while finding photos via the Dropbox web interface has also been made a better experience — there’s a new Photos section in the sidebar.
