Customers get second chance to buy AppleCare+ after iPhone is repaired

If you have ever declined AppleCare+ and then broke your iPhone or iPad, Apple has a new offer for you.

In an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple is giving customers who get their iPhone or Mac repaired through Apple or one of its Authorized Service Providers a second chance to purchase the protection service. According to the memo, the iPhone or Mac must have been purchased in the last year to be eligible for the second chance offer.

In an internal memo this week, obtained by MacRumors, Apple said customers who had an iPhone or Mac repaired at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider are now eligible to purchase AppleCare+ for the device, so long as the device was purchased less than one year ago and passes a physical inspection and diagnostics after repair.

Customers are still required to pay Apple’s full out-of-warranty fees for any repairs completed prior to purchasing AppleCare+ coverage for the device.

AppleCare+ not only extends the life of the standard warranty that comes with every iPhone and Mac but comes with some additional benefits too. The big one is, of course, coverage for accidental drops so, if your iPhone crashes into the ground and the display shatters, Apple has your back.

Those kinds of repairs normally come with a small fee but it isn’t near the cost you would incur having to pay for the repair outright.

Of course, if you want to repair things yourself, you can always wait until Apple rolls out its new self-repair program for the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13.
