Less than a year after joining Apple, former Cisco executive Stella Low is leaving the company and departing her role as vice president of communications. In place of Low, Apple CEO Tim Cook has appointed Kristin Huguet Quayle as Apple’s vice president in charge of worldwide communications.
Until today’s announcement, Quayle had served as the company’s vice president of corporate communications, having joined the company back in 2005. Quayle holds an MBA from University of California Berkeley Haas Business School and Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and political science from Furman University.
The appointment to VP of worldwide communications is effective immediately. In a statement to 9to5Mac, an Apple spokesperson said that Quayle is “uniquely suited” for her new role.
Kristin has played an instrumental role sharing Apple’s story of incredible innovation and strong values for more than 15 years. With an extraordinary depth of experience and a long track record of principled leadership, Kristin is uniquely suited for her new role overseeing worldwide communications.
Apple did not provide specifics details on why Low is departing the company after less than a year, only saying she is leaving to spend more time with her family.

This shakeup is particularly interesting for a number of reasons. For context, Steve Dowling was named vice president of communications for Apple in April 2015, taking the reigns from Katie Cotton. Dowling, however, then abruptly left the company in October 2020. From there, Apple fellow Phil Schiller was in charge of Apple’s public relations until Low was hired in May of 2021.
When Low joined Apple, the company touted that her “remarkable experience and leadership” would help Apple “write the next chapter” on the “positive impacts” Apple makes on communities around the world. Prior to her time at networking giant Cisco, Low spent time at companies such as Unisys and Dell.
Low’s seven months on the job were tumultuous in a number of ways. Apple is currently embroiled in a number of high-profile legal battles with the likes of Epic Games and Spotify, and also facing antitrust pressure around the world. Apple also announced a handful of new Child Safety features last summer. These announcements were widely criticized — with many suggesting Apple botched the announcement and press around the features more than anything.
