Asus Reveals Foldable PC, Tablet with RTX GPU

As the Consumer Electronics Show continues to roll on, we’re seeing more and more cool Windows devices from Microsoft’s partners. The latest of those come from Asus, which revealed a foldable 17-inch PC, as well as a Surface-Pro like tablet with Nvidia’s RTX 30-series graphics from the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand.

We start first with the foldable PC, which is the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. This device was made closely with Intel and is the first’s first 17.3 inch foldable OLED laptop. As you expect, there are two displays in one device. There’s a large 4:3 17.3-inch 2.5K touchscreen that can fold in the middle to create two seamless 3:2 aspect ratio 12.5-inch 1920×1280 displays. An Asus ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard can be placed on the bottom to use the device as a traditional PC — a bit like Microsoft’s canceled Surface Neo. As for what’s under the hood, the device is powered by Intel’s 12th generation U-series Core i7 processors and Iris X graphics. There are also two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, to support fast charging. Check it out in the video below.

Note that Asus is planning to bring the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED to market by mid-year 2022. No pricing has been announced. There’s also hope other OEM’s could join the mix with new foldable PCs too. That’s because Intel revealed that foldable PCs are now part of the Intel Evo certification and specification (as reported by MSPU.)

Now for the Surface Pro-like tablet with RTX graphics, it is known as the ROG Flow Z13. This gaming tablet is unlike any other on the market, as it sports a 14-core Intel Core i9-12900H processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU, and 5200MHz LPDDR5 memory. Display options include a 4K 60Hz display with 85% DCI-P3 coverage, or a Full HD 120Hz screen with a 100% sRGB gamut. Both panels are rated at 500 nits and sports Dolby Vision HDR and are tuned to the 16:10 aspect ratio. Of course, as a Surface Pro clone, it also has a kickstand, which the folks at Digital Trends report is a little too tall, and can only open up to one angle of 170 degrees. A screen cover keyboard is also included, to use the device as a traditional PC.

Asus also announced some other devices, including the ROG Strix SCAR, and the ROG Zephyrus G14. There’s also the ROG Zephyrus G14 which adds in a secondary display/ ScreenPad Plus to the mix. A new TUF gaming laptop, Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition, and the Asus ExpertBook B3 Detachable with Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chips cap out the list of devices.
