Apple TV+ has reportedly bagged Chris O’Dowd to stare in The Big Door Prize, an upcoming comedy series from Schitt’s Creek executive producer David West Read.

According to a Variety report, O’Dowd has signed on for the 10-episode show, starring as Dusty, “a good-natured teacher and family man whose deeply average life has followed a safe and predictable path, until the appearance of the mystifying machine forces him to question his own happiness.”

The story itself is based on a book by the same name, with Schitt’s Creek executive producer David West Read tasked with the adaptation.

The 10-episode series is based on the M.O. Walsh novel of the same name. It tells the story of a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the grocery store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential.

We’re still obviously a fair way from Big Door Prize grazing any screens, but this is already looking set to be another Apple TV+ must-watch. Priced at $4.99 per month, the Apple TV+ catalog makes the streaming service a no-brainer at this point. Existing Apple Arcade and Apple Music subscribers should also consider the Apple One subscription bundle, too. That bundles a ton of Apple services under one roof, saving money for customers in the process.
