5G iPhone SE (2022): Rumors, price, features, more

Source: XLEAKS& x TENTECHREVIEW

The 2020 iPhone SE really set itself apart as one of Apple’s finest iPhone offerings thanks to its nifty size, Touch ID, surprisingly-current processor, and its extremely affordable price point.

Rumors persist that Apple plans to unveil a new successor to its best iPhone for those on a budget in the Spring of 2022. Here’s everything we think we know so far.

Release date

The most recent and specific information states that Apple will hold an event on March 8 (or close to that date) where it will unveil the new iPhone SE alongside a new iPad Air. That would pin the release date to very close to that date as well. Apple sometimes offers new products for pre-order on the day they are announced, or at the end of the same week, which would be Friday, March 11.

Design

It has been explicitly rumored that Apple won’t make any big design tweaks to the iPhone SE. From previous reports:

Kuo’s note says that we shouldn’t expect drastic changes compared with the outgoing 2020 iPhone SE beyond the addition of a beefier CPU and the aforementioned 5G radio. That’s no huge surprise, with Apple using the device as an entry-level one that’s designed to offer parents an inexpensive way to get kids into an iPhone rather than an Android device.

Features

The biggest upgrade reportedly on the card for the new iPhone SE is 5G. First added to the iPhone 12, 5G would be a big upgrade for customers using wireless mobile data for downloads, streaming, and more.

We’re also expecting a new internal processor for the iPhone. If Apple follows the pattern of the previous iPhone SE it might even include the A15 processor from the iPhone 13.

Size

Apple is expected to keep the iPhone SE at around the same size as the current one, however, there are rumors it may debut a larger iPhone SE “Plus” next year.

Name

Display analyst Ross Young has noted that the rumored name of this is the iPhone SE + 5G, however, sticking with iPhone SE could also be a possibility.

Price

When it was unveiled the iPhone SE cost just $399, and its low price point was one of the biggest draws of the phone. While Apple is making some upgrades the price has always been the iPhone SE’s defining feature, so while we haven’t heard any concrete info, it seems unlike this would change.
