2.3 million Xbox consoles have been sold in Japan all time, according to new report

Weekly Famitsu magazine has released a report that 2,345,975 Xbox consoles have been sold in Japan across all generations since the launch of the Xbox brand 20 years ago. That is the number at the time of the publishing of the report back on February 6.

Overall, the Microsoft’s line of consoles has had a rough go of it in Japan over the last two decades. It’s surprising to learn that the overwhelming majority of those 2.3 million sales – right around half, in fact – came courtesy of the Xbox 360, which had well over one and a half million sales in Japan and constitutes a pretty big success compared to the other Xbox offerings there. Total sales of Microsoft’s consoles in Japan according to Weekly Famitsu’s report breaks down as follows.

  • Xbox – 472,992
  • Xbox 360 – 1,616,128
  • Xbox One – 114,831
  • Xbox Series X/S – 142,024

It is interesting to note that the Series X/S has already overtaken the Xbox One in total sales. This is encouraging news for Japanese Xbox owners, and could be a sign of better things to come for the Xbox brand in the land of the rising sun.
